Campaigns

Through our campaigns, we want to talk about periods, and why we can only achieve true social and environmental justice if it’s intersectional and inclusive - in its movement, in conversation, and in policy.
Our aim is to be as inclusive as possible and to highlight our understanding that our fights are as much a social issue, environmental, health as a gender one.  Everyone, including trans and gender non conforming people, deserves access to safe, circular, fair, healthy menstrual items that are considerate both to our wellbeing and that of the planet.

MENSY

Embark on a journey with the MENSY project—a groundbreaking initiative designed to amplify the impact of partner organisations in the feminist and environmental sectors, focusing on youth engagement.

Our mission is to create a comprehensive suite of training resources on menstruation and sustainability, incorporating proven elements from existing programmes and scaling them for use across Europe and beyond.

At the heart of MENSY is our commitment to combat menstrual poverty by breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation. Despite being a natural and universal process, menstruation remains a hushed topic, leading to inadequate conditions and a lack of systemic support for menstruators worldwide.
→ WHAT IS MENSY?

In a world where the majority of menstrual products are single-use and contribute to environmental, economic, health, and social impacts, MENSY envisions a shift towards reusable, toxic-free, and plastic-free alternatives.

Mensy is a 24 month long project funded by Erasmus+. The project is delivered by eight project partners; VOICE in Ireland, Women's Environmental Network in the UK, ZERO in Portugal, Rezero in Catalonia, Women Engage for a Common Future in the Netherlands, Friends of the Earth Croatia, Greenzone in Hungary and Zero Waste Lviv in Ukraine.
→ WHAT DOES MENSY AIM TO ACHIEVE?

The Mensy project aims to develop a manual and resources on sustainable menstruation for use by youth leaders when working with young people. We will also train youth leaders in use of the manual and resources. Through engaging at least 160 youth leaders across Europe, we aim to pioneer the "Menstruation: Empowerment and Sustainability" training programme, fostering a new generation of advocates for environmental, economic, and gender justice in menstrual education. By the project's end, we anticipate 80 dedicated youth leaders from eight European countries committed to conducting training sessions within one year of completing the pilot programme.

→ RESOURCES CREATED BY THE MENSY PROJECT

Through this project we have created a training manual for youth leaders. This is in the process of being translated into Dutch, Portuguese, Catalan, Spanish, Hungarian, Croatian, Hungarian and Ukrainian. The English version of the manual can be viewed and downloaded here.

#ENVIRONMENSTRUALWEEK

Founded by Women’s Environmental Network(WEN), #environmenstrualweek is an annual week of action to put the spotlight on periods. This year it will happen from the 10th-17th of October 2021, and jointly with our powerful European members we will be calling on the lack of specific regulations for period products. Single-use disposable and reusable period products should be regulated to ensure safer, more sustainable, and affordable period products for all!

→ ENVIRONMENSTRUAL WEEK HERSTORY

In 2018, the first ever Environmenstrual Week was launched by Wen (Women’s Environmental Network) in the UK. Environmenstrual Week is a week of action dedicated to advocating for healthy, eco-friendly menstrual products for everybody. It’s a week dedicated to helping all people who menstruate feel empowered to make an informed choice about which menstrual products to use. With the purpose of tackling period plastic and harmful chemicals, the menstrual taboo, and increasing access to plastic-free and reusable menstrual products, Environmenstrual Week has grown into a movement that is now 4 years strong!
