#Period Power

PeriodPower is a campaign hub of 15+ organisations across Europe fighting for the rights of menstruators as well as of our planet. We were born from a joint Task-Force led by Break Free From Plastic (BFFP) Movement and Zero Waste Europe (ZWE), with the aim to amplify the great, bloody and powerful menstrual work of our network across Europe and beyond!

We work in three levels:

1

Changing the narrative/taboo around periods by raising awareness and providing information,

2

Changing production by demanding manufacturers to produce eco-friendly and health-friendly menstrual products, and

3

Changing policy, by asking European, National and Local leaders to put in place legislation to ensure period education and access to safe, fair and sustainable menstrual products for everyone.

Whether it’s raising awareness, breaking the taboo, skilling up educators, demanding action from producers and suppliers, or asking for policy change, we need to start talking about periods, and taking action to empower menstruators and build a better world!

We fight for safe, fair and sustainable menstrual products for ALL!

  • "Everyone deserves access to circular and accessible menstrual products - we shouldn’t have to give up the latter because of the former. This will only happen if circular menstrual items become the norm and more incentives are directed towards their production and market access."
    Ana Oliveira
    Comms Coordinator, ZWE
"Conventional single-use menstrual products can damage people’s health and our planet. Women must have the right to know these impacts & make an informed choice about their periods. We need safe (toxic-free), fair (accessible), & circular menstrual products (plastic-free and reusable) for the sake of womxn’s health, of the environment and to end menstrual poverty,"
    Larissa Copello
    Consumption and Production Campaigner, ZWE
"The ongoing taboo and subsequent misinformation about menstruation in our society has perpetuated the habit for womxn to opt for conventional disposable and single-use menstrual products, without the possibility of choosing in an informed way. It is time to debunk these misbeliefs because a healthier, more environmental-friendly and economically-sustainable alternative not only is possible, but should also be pursued by all menstruators as soon as possible."
    Chiara Padovani
Digital Marketing Intern for Mission Zero Academy, ZWE
  • "It’s time to talk about menstrual equity. Access to menstrual products that are toxic-free and sustainable with the planet is an essential right to all women – including transgender, non binary people who menstruate. It affects every aspect of a woman’s life and it should no longer be undermined by the patriarchal system. Periods are to be recognised, respected and cared for as part of our personal and environmental health. "
    Mariel Vilella
    Director of Global Strategy, ZWE
"For me it's unbelievable that in the 21st century there is still no easy accessibility to basic products that sustain essential needs. The simple thought that there are people not able to access safe and environment-friendly menstrual products is worrisome. I wish we also include in the discourse the ones that find themselves in precarious economic conditions."
    Alexandra Clipa
    Admin Assistant, ZWE
"The ongoing taboo and subsequent misinformation about menstruation in our society has perpetuated the habit for womxn to opt for conventional disposable and single-use menstrual products, without the possibility of choosing in an informed way. It is time to debunk these misbeliefs because a healthier, more environmental-friendly and economically-sustainable alternative not only is possible, but should also be pursued by all menstruators as soon as possible."
